Loving God, who is full of compassion and understanding, teach us to listen well to the voice of your Son, that our understanding would not be clouded by our own desires and feelings, but rather that we would take in the loving and profound wisdom of the one who made us, through Jesus Christ your Son our Savior. Amen. ‘Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!”‘ – Mark 9:7 We all approach the scriptures and the words of the Holy Spirit in our hearts through the lens of our experience and emotion. How willing are you to accept that what you hear may not always be what God intends? What would it be like to set aside your certainties or impulses and to ask God to make sure you understand what he means and desires?
