A Lenten Collect to Listen and See

Holy Spirit, who speaks to us in a gentle voice, keep us from speaking and acting when you have invited us to see and listen, that we would not interrupt your work in us and others, but would bear witness to what you are creating and be awed by your creativity and power, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Father are working always toward redeeming your creation. Amen. ‘Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what to say, for they were terrified.’ – Mark 9:5-6 How difficult do you find it to watch and listen, even when things are uncomfortable? Peter was terrified and so couldn’t bear to sit and do nothing; he had to take action, but his words didn’t fit the situation. What situations have you found yourself in that you had to act – to do something or to escape – to get rid of the discomfort? If you can’t think of any, ask the Spirit to bring something to mind. Is the Spirit calling you to hold on to him in those places of discomfort and to wait for him to bring something about?
