A Lenten Collect to Go Where and When God Leads

God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who is not far from your people, you do not leave us to languish or retire from following you, but continually call us to grow and enter into new opportunities and challenges. Give us willing hearts to follow wherever and whenever you lead, through Jesus Christ our example and Lord, who walked with you and the Holy Spirit in perfect love. Amen. ‘When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.”‘ – Gen. 17:1 While God does lead us into green pastures and still waters, he does not desire that we stay there forever, growing fat and entitled. Are there ways where you have become resistant to God’s invitations? Are there places where you have grown accustomed to how things are and do not wish God to take you anywhere new? Perhaps you have not steeped long enough in God’s care and love, but we all can be tempted to linger in comfort longer than we ought. Where do you find yourself?
