A Lenten Collect of Forgiveness for our Greed

Heavenly Father, who provides for your people, forgive our impulses to enrich ourselves through taking advantage of others. Drive from us the greed and self-centeredness that destroys your people and rots the bonds that tie together your children, and instill in us a desire to love one another deeply as you have loved us, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is one with you and the Holy Spirit in mind and heart. Amen. ‘In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. He told those who were selling the doves, “Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace!”‘ – John 2:14-16 Are there ways that you neglect or even abuse others in order to satisfy yourself? Can you receive forgiveness and seek to love as you are loved, knowing that God will always receive those who seek to follow him wholeheartedly?
