Lord God, who has promised us good in your love, keep us from the temptation to use you for our own devices, that our hearts would be satisfied in relationship and not in utility, and you would find joy in us as we find it in you, though Christ our brother, who walked with you always and now lives in your glorious presence in the Holy Spirit forever. Amen.
‘Then the devil led him to Jerusalem and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’ and ‘On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.’”‘ – Luke 4:9-11
