A Lenten Collect to Enter into God’s Ways

Heavenly Father, whose ways are not like our ways, help us to detach from the worldly and sinful ways that we understand life to work, and teach us your ways of humility, gentleness, and love, that we would experience your life and the world might enter into your kingdom fully, through our teacher Jesus Christ your Son. Amen. ‘For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.’ – 1 Cor. 1:25 In what ways does your heart expect life to work differently than scripture reveals of God’s workings? What unwritten laws dictate how life goes in your heart? Perhaps, “Only the strong survive,” or “You’ll suffer without enough distance from others”? If you had to write out the ten commandments that dictate how you expect life to work, what would they be? And how do they compare to God’s way of being?
