A Collect to Wait Well

Heavenly Father, who is creator and owner of all that we know, help us to accept that your timing is not our own, that when we find ourselves waiting for your will and your call, we do not despair or grow angry, but trust that in your time, you will come and meet us and invite us into your work, through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen. ‘ When he went out about nine o’clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and he said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went. When he went out again about noon and about three o’clock, he did the same.’ – Matthew 20:3-5 Do you find yourself waiting? Waiting for God? Waiting for justice or mercy? Waiting for relief or fulfillment? What is it like to wait? How do you talk to God about your waiting, and what does he say to you in response? What do you need from him?
