Holy Lord, whose mercy is not without justice, we have been forgiven much. Impress on our hearts the call this inspires for us to forgive others and to show mercy to those who are in need as we are, through Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us that your forgiveness might be made manifest through the Spirit. Amen. “Then his lord summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. Should you not have had mercy on your fellow slave, as I had mercy on you?’” – Matthew 18:32-33 In the polarized culture we are living in, forgiveness and mercy seem to be slipping away in some respects. Are there individuals or groups that you feel owe you something? Have others made you angry? How much might that anger make you not want to forgive them? Are there people or groups that God is calling you to reconcile with in forgiveness?
