A Collect to Become Secure in God’s Love

Our Father in Heaven, who was and is and is to come, keep us from trusting too much in the esteem of others, and help us to turn our hearts toward seeking your love, that we would not be let down by the trappings of merely human status and power, but would find ourselves secure in our connection with the maker of all things, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ‘”Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”‘ If your status in the world suddenly dropped from where it is now, how insecure or frightened would that make you feel? If your colleagues no longer thought you capable or your social media posts were suddenly ignored or whatever way you might get attention from the larger world were to suddenly cease, what would that do to your mind and heart? Or perhaps you feel like they already do; what would it change if suddenly you received attention you don’t now have? How much does that suggest you rely on the crowd for your sense of well-being? What would it be like to rest in God’s constant acceptance and love? Talk with God about how he might be inviting you to remain in that love.
