A Collect to be Moved to Remorse by the Word of the Lord

Holy Spirit, who abides within us as members of the body of Christ, may our hearts be pricked when we hear the word of the Lord, so that we would feel remorse for our sins and be moved to repent and hold fast to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, the fulfillment of the law and the beloved Son of the Father. Amen. ‘So they read from the book, from the law of God, with interpretation. They gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading. And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.’ – Neh. 8:8-9
