Righteous Lord, who lifts up the humble and casts down the proud, may we, like you, attend to the oppressed, the hungry, the poor, and the vulnerable, that in caring for those that matter to you, we might become like you and receive from your hand protection and blessing and health, through Jesus your son, who reigns over all creation with you and the Holy Spirit in glory forever. Amen.
‘Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them and not to hide yourself from your own kin?’ – Isa. 58:6-7
