Holy Father, who lost your son to our faults, let us sit in silence and grief with you as you mourn the loss of your beloved and the need for him to offer himself in sacrifice, that we would feel the impact of that suffering, not running from it, but allowing it to change us until we are made like you, through Jesus, your son, our Savior. Amen. ‘They took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices in linen cloths, according to the burial custom of the Jews. Now there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. And so, because it was the Jewish day of Preparation, and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.’ – John 19:40-42 Can you sit in the grief and pain of loss without turning away? Can you simply be present to suffering for a time and allow it to affect you? What do you need to stay still in the emptiness and loss?
